This book was challenging to read. I quit for a while, but returned to finish it. I found myself skipping paragraphs and pages. I am glad I finished it, but I was glad when it was over. I struggled with the writing style of the diarist and found it difficult to follow and stay engaged. There are many instances where the writer unnecessarily chose phrasing that made it more complicated to follow. ex. "namely the enumeration of all epicurean delights". I am also not a fan of long sentences when it is already a challenge to stay engaged. I counted one sentence with 94 words. I frequently read books by holocaust survivors, and still feel like I got a new perspective on the difficulties faced by the survivors from this book.
